Flights from Biscarrosse to New York

Please fasten your seat belts...

A major international airport!

In the 1930s, a base for assembly and flight tests was created due to the inspiration of Pierre George Latécoère. Some of the streets of Biscarrosse Town are named after the legends of the sky, such as Mermoz, Saint Exupéry or Guillaumet... All these aviators were here to take part in the conquest of the skies!

Their objective was ambitious: to fly to America across the Atlantic Ocean. The method: using a seaplane or flying boat. They chose Biscarrosse for their departure in order to take advantage of the calm water, which is protected from the winds and waves of the Atlantic.

The "hub" of Biscarrosse

Thus Biscarrosse was placed at the heart of an unprecedented human, scientific and economic adventure. It is from here that the first transatlantic scheduled flights were made by Air France to New York and to the Caribbean...

The construction of a large international airport was even planned to accommodate a growing number of travellers... but the Second World War started and put an end to the project.
